‘Drugs & Alcohol Problems: Don’t Know Where To Turn?’ is aimed at the general public to provide information on direct points of contact and support if drugs and/or alcohol are becoming a problem for an individual, their relatives or carers.

Wirral DAAT Referral Pathways

‘Wirral Drugs & Alcohol Referral Pathway for Professionals’ is aimed specifically at professionals who may encounter individuals experiencing problems with their own or a significant other’s drug and/or alcohol use. The publication also features a whole range of generic services such as health provision, services for diverse groups, housing and welfare provision, among others, as the DAAT realises that people affected by drug and alcohol use need access to a wide range of support and advice to meet their varying needs. The document demonstrates the DAAT’s commitment to adhering to a quality framework (Models of Care, 2002).

The Service Directory is intended to be of assistance to individuals using drugs or alcohol, their parents/carers, relatives or friends. This includes people already using services or those who would like to. It is also intended to be of value as an aid to referral to a whole range of service providers.

Accessing the ACT Helpline is easy. Simply call: 0800 028 1300 and a team of experienced, dedicated substance misuse staff are ready to take calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Drug Intervention Programme

Effective treatment can reduce crime amongst drug users and is a key aim of the local Drug Intervention Programme (DIP) set up in 2004.

As part of the DIP, anyone in Wirral who is arrested and tests positive for drugs will be invited to take part in the programme, rather than being sent to prison. Treatments include methodone prescribing, counselling and group work and there is plenty of evidence to show that it works. Reducing supply of illegal drugs in Wirral is another key aim for the DAAT. For further information on the DIP programme, contact the Criminal Justice Services Manager on 0151-666 6872 or 0151-647 8633.

Interactive Drug Information System (Marvin)

The interactive touch screen kiosk will be used in venues across Wirral to bring the general public up to date information about drug services and support offered in Wirral. The Kiosk also has a printer to help the user “carry away” information given to follow up later.

The kiosk will educate and deliver important information to the Wirral community and also help Wirral DAAT consult and evaluate on the community’s views, via interactive surveys and games on the kiosk.

This new tool will help Wirral DAAT to consult, engage and provide delivery of key information to hard to reach sections of our community.

The software can also be web enabled and run on any standard PC.

Audit of the level and patterns of drug and alcohol misuse in Wirral 2001 - 2004

Wirral Drug and Alcohol Action Team (DAAT) is a partnership, established in 1995 as part of the government’s National Drug Strategy, to tackle locally the problems of drug misuse. We bring together all the key agencies involved with the issue, as well as voluntary and community groups and service users.

Our Audit of the levels and patterns of drug and alcohol misuse in Wirral 2001 – 2004 addressed the four key themes of the national and local drug strategy, as well as alcohol misuse. The audit draws conclusions about problematic drug and alcohol misuse in Wirral, including which substances are causing the most problems, where substance misuse is occurring and the impact upon local communities, health, crime and other related areas.
